EGC2 Website Accessibility Statement

The EGC2 website forms part of the GESGB group of websites.
EGC2 is jointly organised by the Geoscience Energy Society of
Great Britain (GESGB) and The Geological Society of London (GSL).

We are working towards Web Content Accessibility
Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA
. We do not currently
claim that the entire EGC2 website fully conforms with this standard.

Our commitment to accessibility

GESGB is committed to making the EGC2 website and its associated
digital services accessible to as many people as possible.

We want people to be able to access information about EGC2,
its programme, registration, participation and related activities
regardless of disability, neurodivergence, access requirement,
technology or method of interaction.

Accessibility is an ongoing part of how we develop and improve
our digital services.

Our aim is to work towards WCAG 2.2 Level AA
across the EGC2 website as part of the wider GESGB digital environment.

About this website

This statement covers the EGC2 website, which forms part of
the GESGB group of websites, and describes our approach to
accessibility across its associated digital journeys.

The EGC2 website contains a mixture of newer content and inherited
pages, templates, documents and functionality.

As part of its wider digital transformation programme, GESGB is
reviewing and redeveloping its websites, online systems and
digital processes, including the EGC2 website.

Some existing areas of the website were created before our current
accessibility approach was introduced and may not yet meet the
standards we are working towards.

We are not currently claiming that the entire EGC2 website
fully conforms with WCAG 2.2 Level AA.

Instead, we are taking a progressive approach to identifying,
improving and replacing inaccessible or outdated elements as
part of our ongoing digital redevelopment.

What we are working to improve

Our accessibility work includes consideration of:

  • clear and consistent website navigation;
  • logical page structures and heading hierarchies;
  • keyboard navigation;
  • readable text and appropriate colour contrast;
  • meaningful alternative text for images;
  • clear links, buttons and calls to action;
  • accessible online forms;
  • event booking and registration journeys;
  • mobile and responsive website accessibility;
  • accessible documents and downloadable materials;
  • compatibility with screen readers and other assistive technologies;
  • accessible multimedia and embedded content where practicable; and
  • consistency between the EGC2 website and its connected digital services.

Accessibility will continue to be considered when new pages,
services and systems are introduced.

Known accessibility limitations

As redevelopment continues, some areas of the website may not
yet be fully accessible.

Potential limitations may include:

  • legacy webpages and templates;
  • older PDF documents and downloadable files;
  • historic conference publications and archive materials;
  • images without complete alternative text;
  • older page structures or formatting;
  • third-party forms, booking systems or embedded services;
  • historic content created before current accessibility processes were introduced; and
  • differences in accessibility between older and newly developed areas of the website.

We will continue to review these areas and make improvements
where reasonably practicable.

Documents and historic content

The EGC2 website may include or link to historic conference
and technical material.

Some older documents, presentations, publications or PDFs may
not have originally been produced in an accessible format.

Where a document is not accessible and you need the information
in an alternative format, please contact us and we will consider
what reasonable alternative we can provide.

Third-party services

Some digital services used in connection with EGC2 are provided
through external platforms or suppliers.

These may include:

  • event registration and ticketing systems;
  • membership platforms used in connection with member registration;
  • payment services;
  • online forms;
  • embedded media;
  • email and marketing systems; and
  • other external digital services.

GESGB does not always have full control over the underlying
design or technical accessibility of third-party platforms.

Where accessibility issues are identified within services we use,
we will consider whether adjustments, alternative routes or
engagement with the relevant supplier are appropriate.

Alternative formats and support

If you experience difficulty accessing information on the EGC2
website, or require content in an alternative format, please contact us.

Where reasonably practicable, we will work with you to provide
an appropriate alternative.

This may include:

  • accessible electronic formats;
  • alternative document formats;
  • assistance locating information;
  • alternative registration or booking support; or
  • providing information directly where a digital barrier prevents access.

Reporting an accessibility issue

We welcome feedback about the accessibility of the EGC2 website.

If you experience an accessibility barrier, please contact:

events@ges-gb.org.uk

It is helpful if you can include:

  • the web address or page you were trying to access;
  • the problem you experienced;
  • the device or browser you were using;
  • any assistive technology being used, where relevant; and
  • what information or assistance you require.

We aim to acknowledge and respond to accessibility enquiries
within five working days.

Accessibility and our wider digital redevelopment

GESGB is undertaking wider work to modernise and improve its
digital infrastructure, including the EGC2 website.

Accessibility forms part of this work.

As new website environments, systems and digital journeys are
developed, accessibility will be considered alongside usability,
security, data protection, consistency and user experience.

Where appropriate, further testing and specialist assessment
will be used to help identify areas requiring improvement.

Until sufficient testing and assessment have been completed,
we will not make a blanket claim of full WCAG 2.2 Level AA
conformance across all existing EGC2 website content.

European accessibility requirements

GESGB is mindful of evolving accessibility requirements affecting
digital services in the UK and internationally, including the
European Accessibility Act where applicable.

As the EGC2 website and its associated digital services develop,
we will continue to consider relevant accessibility standards
and regulatory requirements.

This statement does not constitute formal legal or technical
certification of compliance with any particular accessibility
legislation or standard.

Where formal assessment or specialist interpretation is required,
GESGB may seek appropriate external advice.

Continuous improvement

GESGB recognises that accessibility is not a one-off project.

We are committed to continuous improvement through:

  • reviewing accessibility during website redevelopment;
  • improving standards for newly created content;
  • progressively updating legacy content;
  • considering accessibility when selecting new digital suppliers;
  • building accessibility into internal processes;
  • responding to feedback from delegates and website users;
  • providing alternative access where appropriate; and
  • periodically reviewing this statement.

Our aim is to create a digital environment that enables the widest
possible range of people to access EGC2 information, participate
in the conference and engage with the energy geoscience community.
